Ron Paul Says Republican Party Has ‘Lost Its Way’ On Iraq

Our old friend, Ron Paul, now running for U.S. President, is offering Americans a fresh ‘narrative’ that explains what is happening to them from a different perspective. On Lew Rockwell we read:

“The explosive exchange occurred during the Republican Presidential debate in South Carolina.

“Ron was asked if he really wants the troops to come home, and whether that is really a Republican position.

“‘Well,’ he said, ‘I think the party has lost its way, because the conservative wing of the Republican Party always advocated a non-interventionist foreign policy. Senator Robert Taft didn’t even want to be in NATO. George Bush won the election in the year 2000 campaigning on a humble foreign policy – no nation-building, no policing of the world.

Republicans were elected to end the Korean War. The Republicans were elected to end the Vietnam War. There’s a strong tradition of being anti-war in the Republican Party. It is the constitutional position. It is the advice of the Founders to follow a non -interventionist foreign policy, stay out of entangling alliances, be friends with countries, negotiate and talk with them and trade with them.’

“He was then asked if 9-11 changed anything. He responded that US foreign policy was a ‘major contributing factor. Have you ever read the reasons they attacked us? They attacked us because we’ve been over there; we’ve been bombing Iraq for 10 years. We’ve been in the Middle East – I think Reagan was right. We don’t understand the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics. So right now we’re building an embassy in Iraq that’s bigger than the Vatican. We’re building 14 permanent bases. What would we say here if China was doing this in our country or in the Gulf of Mexico? We would be objecting. We need to look at what we do from the perspective of what would happen if somebody else did it to us.’

“And then out of the blue, he was asked whether we invited the attacks.

“‘I’m suggesting that we listen to the people who attacked us and the reason they did it, and they are delighted that we’re over there because Osama bin Laden has said, “I am glad you’re over on our sand because we can target you so much easier.” They have already now since that time – killed 3,400 of our men, and I don’t think it was necessary.'”

Ron Paul is truthful, insightful, knowledgeable, and transcends all party lines with his message on where America is, and where she needs to go. We simply can’t afford more of the same in Washington in 2008 – this ‘Government Gone Wild’ has got to stop. It’s time for the American people to rise up and seize power from the globalists, like Bush, who are working diligently to undermine American sovereignty and our Constitutional way of governing. The new improved ‘war on terror’ is the war being waged for the foundational values America was founded on. WAKE UP AMERICA – IT’S… Read more »

I have noticed a steady increase in support for Ron Paul from Americans living in Asia. While wearing my Ron Paul for President button, I have had American strangers walk up to me from Japan, Hong Kong, Australia and Korea and tell me that they share my enthusiasm for Congressman Paul. With the pro-war vote split 9 to 10 ways in the Republican primaries and the anti-war vote going only to Paul, he can win the nomination.

I think I’m one of a handful of Australians who even know about Ron Paul, let alone support him.

But he is exciting to watch, I’m watching his youtube videos and seeing how he gets quite good coverage in the american media.

If he can get past the Republican primaries, I will personally donate $50 to him. Let the man win the election and destroy the IRS.

Jono…donate now!!! Ron Paul raised about $600,000 before the debate mentioned above. Since then he has raised over $2 million. The more we can raise now, the more likely it is that he will win the primary. Even if he doesn’t win, the amount that he raised after being attacked by Guliani is a vindication of his message and the funds will be used to spread that message throughout the country.
